Computer Classes at the C. E. Weldon Public Library
March Computer Classes
for Adults
Pre-registration is REQUIRED for all
computer classes. You must register in person at the
circulation desk. You are allowed to register yourself only
for computer classes. Registration opens for each class on
the first of each month.

There is a limit of 8 participants for most classes. A
computer will be provided.
· Cancellation Policy – Important: if you find that you are
unable to attend, please call the library at 731-587-3148,
as soon as possible so we may fill your spot. Because of
the high demand for these classes, a $5.00 no-show fee will
be assessed if cancellation is not made 24-hours in advance.
Classes will meet in the conference room at the library.
Classes and Descriptions

LEARN TO USE
A COMPUTER MOUSE AND KEYBOARD If you have never used a computer mouse or have trouble
navigating with a mouse this is a pre-requisite to all other
classes. Basic explanation of the keyboard will be given.

COMPUTER
BASICS
Basic elements of Windows, including: using the mouse and
keyboard, highlighting, copying, and pasting text, common
menus, toolbars, and shortcuts, exploring programs and
documents, overview of computer hardware and storage media.

INTERNET FOR
BEGINNERS
Introduction to the Internet, including getting online,
understanding basic terminology, toolbar buttons in Internet
Explorer, using search sites, evaluating Web sites and
online information, using intermediate and advanced online
tools and search features.
Prerequisites: Computer Basics class -or- familiarity
with the mouse, including highlighting, copying, and pasting.

MICROSOFT
WORD FOR BEGINNERS Class will cover components of a typical Word window. Learn
to create and save a document, editing and formatting
techniques, cut, copy and paste, and preview and printing
documents Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers class or
must be proficient with the mouse and have a good
understanding of keyboard editing keys.

MICROSOFT
WORD II (DESKTOP PUBLISHING) Microsoft Word provides many of the features you’ll find in
most commercial desktop publishing programs. Learn all the
features that will get you on your way to creating beautiful
newsletters, fliers, greeting cards, etc. Prerequisite:
Microsoft Word for Beginners, or must be proficient with
basic Word functions.

EXCEL FOR
BEGINNERS This popular spreadsheet program will introduce you to
components of a typical Excel window and spreadsheet basics
including formulas, and formatting cells, rows, and columns.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers class or must be
proficient with the mouse and have a good understanding of
keyboard editing keys.

ADVANCED
MICROSOFT EXCEL
Learn
how to navigate within an Excel worksheet, enter and edit
data, select ranges, format cells, and create simple
formulas and charts. Prerequisites: Microsoft Word class - or - familiarity
with using the keyboard and mouse; highlighting, copying,
and pasting text; and using the basic elements of the
Windows operating system.

BEGINNER
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
This
class will provide an overview of how to upload digital
photographs from your digital camera to a computer, and then
how to do some basic editing of them using free image
editing software and web services. It is not a class on
how to use your digital camera or to do advanced image
editing. You are welcome to bring your digital camera
and laptop to class if you like, or you can just come and
watch.

POWERPOINT
FOR BEGINNERS Learn how to use design templates for slides and how to add
WordArt, clip art and animations. We'll also discuss how to
save, view and print a presentation, as well as posting your
presentation online for others to view.
Prerequisites: Microsoft Word class - or - familiarity
with using the keyboard and mouse; highlighting, copying,
and pasting text; and using the basic elements of the
Windows operating system.

USING THE
LIBRARY CATALOG
Come
learn ways to find what you're looking for in the library
catalog. We'll cover basic search techniques that are
guaranteed to save you time, including narrowing your search
and accessing your account. We'll give an overview of Illuminar, the library software. This course will be
offered later in the spring of 2012.

GOOGLE EMAIL
Creating and using a free Google email account, including
choosing a unique email address and password, composing and
sending email messages, attaching files to email messages,
reading and replying to incoming email, and storing email
addresses in a personal address book.
Prerequisites: Computer Basics class and Internet class
-or-familiarity with using the keyboard and mouse, getting
online and entering Web addresses.

RÉSUMÉ 101
Use
Winway Resume software to create and print a basic resume.
Other
classes will be offered during the year, including homework
help for kids, test preparation for high school students,
